Today was the 11th Annual Alice Cooper Celebrity Golf tournament, raising funds for Alice's Solid Rock Foundation. What a day! The wind was a bit strong, but the spritit of the event was even stronger as the tourney raised big money to build The Rock.

After 18 holes of fun, a live auction raised more than $28,000 and Alice performed with the help of his son. More to follow...

Celebrating their dedication to THE ROCK project are Brent Richardson, CEO of Grand Canyon University, Jim Piccolo, CEO of Nouveau Riche University, and Jerry Colangelo, Solid Rock Foundation Advisory Board Member, CEO and Chairman of the Phoenix Suns, at a luncheon hosted by Alice Cooper and Jerry Colangelo. The luncheon was generously hosted by the award winning Tarbell's Restaurant.

May 7th, 2007 a Monday
Talking Stick Golf Club, experience Troon Golf
200 Amateurs & 50 local Celebrities, playing on two 18’s

Out of town amateurs can stay at host resort, Scottsdale Plaza Resort @ discounted rate of $179+ (Book through Marsha @ SRF office)

Cost: $1,000.00 per player, $4,000.00 per foursome
Each player will receive lots-o-great-goodies!

Live Auction will have about 10 to 15 items starting with a car from Airpark Chrysler Jeep, trips, and the chance to perform on stage with Alice at this years AC Christmas Pudding show at the Dodge Theatre Dec. 15th, 2007.

Receiving charity is the Solid Rock Foundation, which is building “The Rock” Teen Center, a 29,000 sq. ft. multi use building centered around music and sports.

Golf Tournament Update

The Alice Cooper Golf Tournament celebrated its 10th year in 2006 and we have had many great memories of all who participated. Without the efforts of all of those who volunteered and participated the tournaments would not have been the successes that they were. We will never be able to thank each of those individuals enough. We especially give a big thank you to Alice for hosting all of these events. We have seen Alice go from Spaceman Commander Cooper to Pirate Captain Cooper and even “Cooperman the Superhero”.

In reality, Alice is a real life superhero to many. Not just through his music that inspired many bands over the years but for his desire and efforts to help the teens in the Phoenix community. I am sure that many of you have heard that Alice’s vision of “The Rock” teen center is on the horizon. Even though we are still in the process of raising capital funds we can see the vision becoming reality. All of us here at Solid Rock are very excited to see this dream come true and we look forward to the opportunity to reach out to the community even more.

This past year has been a great year of change for Solid Rock. We have evolved and grown in many ways and with the teen center in the near future we must change how things are structured as well. For this next year the golf tournaments will be restructured so that overhead costs are kept at a minimum for Solid Rock. At this point we can’t give away any details but we will keep everyone posted on places, dates and times of each of the events that are held.

We thank all of you for your participation and support you have shown through out the years. We hope that you have enjoyed attending the events as we have had having you with us. Solid Rock not only considers you a supporter but also valued friends and family.

President's Take on Building THE ROCK

We are ready to Rock 'n Rock now! Solid Rock is venturing into a bigger arena.....a much bigger arena. The dream of building our state-of-the-art teen center is coming closer to reality. Two weeks ago, we launched our capital fundraising campaign at a lunch meeting led by Jerry Colangelo at Tarbell's restaurant. This successful event was only the first of many events that will yield substantial funds and pledges toward the construction of THE ROCK.

This has been my dream and passion for the last twelve years. The 29,000 square foot facility (THE ROCK) will be located on the campus of Grand Canyon University at 33rd Avenue and Camelback.
It will reach out to youth and teenagers in the surrounding community with the love of God in Christ to give kids the chance to make the right choices in life. In addition to offering a basketball court, a rock climbing wall and a coffee house, "The Rock" will minister to teens through the arts. Music is a vital part of teens and the best way to connect with the youth today is through their music. Unfortunately so many public schools have had to let vital programs like music and dance go due to lack of school funding. "The Rock" is prepared to use the arts of musical instruments, voice, drama, and dance to inspire and challenge kids to choose artistic excellence instead of drugs, guns, or gangs. Who knows what amazing performers might come from "The Rock"?

I am very excited to see that dream finally become reality. Henry David Thoreau once said, "If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them." So don't be afraid to dream big and work at making your dreams become reality. -- Alice Cooper
